There are a couple of articles out there from Reuters and The Hill, stating that the two brother terrorist who set off bombs at the Boston Marathon did not have the proper licensing for the guns they possessed.
Let me repeat that, the two terrorist did not follow the very restrictive gun laws of Massachusetts. By those laws, the younger brother, under 21 could not own a handgun, he did. He could only have a rifle if he had a permit. He did not. The older brother could own a handgun, but he had no license to carry, nor a permit to even own the gun.
Yep. There you have it folks. Terrorist who do not follow the law. Well ain't that a shocker?
Of course both these news agencies wonder if there will be a call for stricter gun control. Of course there will. Until all guns are taken from every person and all guns are outlawed, there will always be those that want more gun control laws and bans.
The irony here is that neither news agency here ask if there will be tougher bombing legislation?
What say you?
Tom, I don't know many gun owners, but in the exchanges I've had with several, none have offered a solution to the ongoing violence. What I see is paranoia, condescension, helplessness, and an unwillingness to compromise. I really think the wrong people are leading the debate on guns.
ReplyDeleteI really would like to see real change when it comes to guns. But this debate has been going on for decades, and it's getting nowhere.
Justice Scalia, who likes to create controversy, knows better than to make bold statements concerning gun control. He knows far too well that he can't shoot off his mouth when it comes to guns, because if he does, again, he'll be on somebod's "list."
With guns comes great responsibility. I don't see the issue being discussed with the gravity it deserves.
People like to say that the government wants to take their guns away. That will never happen. Sure some guns will be banned, but not all guns will be prohibited. And that's because people are just nuts about their guns.
No politician is going to take away all guns, unless they have a death wish. The day a politician suggests we ban ALL guns is the day he/she won't be able to leave the house. That person will be a marked man/woman. Gun advocates need to stop talking in terms of a complete weapons ban 'cause it's never going to happen.
KR, many gun owners think the compromises are over. No more laws that only burden law abiding citizens and do nothing to stop the criminals.
ReplyDeleteYou want serious talks about gun violence. Then take the politics out and have the discussion.
When the president marched out the families of the children killed at Sandy Hook, and marched out US Rep. Gabby Gifford and proposed to ban assault rifles, ban high capacity magazines and expand background checks, that was nothing but politics. His own advisors and many experts said "not one thing that he proposed would have prevented the Sandy Hook massacre. Not one."
That is when the issue became political and not a debate on how to prevent gun crimes.
If we get past the politics, then it will be a debate worth having.
Hey Fellas,,, This is easy... If criminals and the criminally insane want firearms, they are not going to go to Academy or Kirkpatrick's and purchase it legally... There are already laws and requirements in place for the legitimate purchase of firearms and they are a slow and a pain in the rear. There are also laws in place to keep convicted felons from obtaining weapons. We have all seen how well that works. Hell,,, our own government showed the world how easy it is to purchase and move illegal firearms... So what is the answer to this violence??? Punish the legitimate gun owners and collectors.!.. Naw,,, we will just wait for the cops to show up.!.. Or how about we re-write the Constitution???
ReplyDeleteThis is the true burning question; why are the country’s leaders so hell bent to relieve the legit enthusiast of their constitutional liberty??? Is limiting or actually disarming honest Americans the answer. NO!!! It only increases the propensity for the criminal element to make victims out of the rest of us. Limiting magazine capacities isn’t the answer either. It is just that,,, limiting. With a little practice a person can learn how to exchange a lesser capacity magazine almost, and I mean almost, as fast as emptying out a larger capacity magazine… I truly believe the recent tragic events claiming countless lives, (more deplorably, that of innocent children) is cowardly and deserves attention but, are we as a people and a country so naïve as to believe that reliving the honest owner of a liberty is going to change the historical circumstances??? I am aware that “other countries” have strict firearms regulations but, they are not the United States of America.
