For all you out there that say the Laredo Energy Arena is a white elephant. Well there were anywhere from 6,000 to 8,000 people at the LEA today visiting the Job Fair put on by Texas Workforce Commision. No where else in Laredo could have hosted such a large event.
PS, WWE wrestling was packed with over 6,000 people earlier this week.
White elephant, me thinks not.
I went to the LEA today to see the job fair and to my surprise there were very few Vendors that really mattered. The companies that really work in the oil industry were not well represented. My question is why. Maybe of the 5000 people that attended maybe only 20% would have qualified to work. Then of that how many would pass a drug screen is another concern. I have been in Laredo for 20 years and today it is very difficult to find a backhoe operator that qualifies to do the required task. A drug free backhoe operator with CDL where are you? You can go to work in the morning. That is the cry I hear from oilfield service companies in Laredo.
ReplyDeleteSays alot for our parents, schools, and local leaders who don't give a damn about a non-college education. The idea that you have to go to college to be really sucessfull is hokum. Especially if your degree is in ancient history, or some other obsucre liberal arts program.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the trade schools. laredo is begging.
